Konami and Ultra

Through many NES player's eyes, Konami stands as king of all the game developers. It seems almost every release had great graphics, great sound, and most importantly, great gameplay. Konami started in Japan in the 1960s. It joined with Nintendo by releasing Gradius in 1986. Of it's well known games, there is the Castlevania series, Metal Gear series, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and many more.

Because Konami made many quality games, it posed a unique problem. Nintendo had a rule to keep companies to only five game releases a year, in order to keep quality high. So what did they do? Konami formed the company Ultra Games, and went on churning out the games. Konami left the NES after their release of Teenage Mutant Turtles: Tournament Fighters in early 1994. Konami is still a successful company today, with many hit games sequels or re-makes of classic NES games.
